We are so lucky to have such wonderful students in the NM Choir family. I know we don't always get along and we all have our good and bad days, but sharing your musical selves with each other on a daily basis is a powerful part of humanity. What is your favorite part of choir? What challenges you in choir? Who always has your back and builds you up and how?

My favorite part of choir is learning new songs and expanding my singing skills. It challenges me when we have to dance, and since im lazy, i can get quite moody when its too difficult. In other words, in a way, it challenges my sanity. Right now, i only have one person that really talks to me in choir, and her name is Lauren Cribbs. She is such a good person, and if i needed it, she would help me with anything i need it for. She builds me up by just saying hi, or even complimenting me. I am glad to have her around in choir, and in other places, too, like interact club.

My favorite part of choir is when we sing songs and I like them alot because it makes it more enjoyable to sing everyday. The most challenging part of choir for me would be the dancing since I am not really a dancer, but I still enjoy doing it because the dances are always fun. My friends always have my back and challenge me to sing and dance better which helps!

My favorite part of choir is when we get to dance all the time. I love this the most because I get to have fun and I love dancing. I also love getting to have fun with my friends in school as much as possible. Some things that are challenging would be focusing on my counting and festival pieces. I'm very good at sight reading, which I know, but I still need to be practicing more. One of the people that makes my day in choir is madison. She lifts me up and makes my day. I couldn't have asked for a better friend. Even thought I have a brother, she's my sister and I love her and how I am around her.

My favorite part about being in choir is each year meeting new people that come into our "choir family". This is my 7th year in the choir program and every year it interests me to see us succeed even with us losing people as they graduate high school. The most challenging part about choir for me is doing solfege. Sometimes It can be tricky for me. My friends in my section and out of my section really challenge me to do always do my best! I think the choir always has each others back and helps each individual get better and better. I am excited to perform at my last pops concert of my last year as a high schooler. I know that we will do a great job! :)

My favorite part of choir is probably being at the point where we can sing our songs without having to look at the music. When we know the songs, it ends up sounding really beautiful. Sometimes my section challenges me. It is really important to stay on pitch when you sing so high up, and sometimes my section has to work really hard to achieve this. I think that the section leaders always have my back. If I ever need something choir-related or I need help in class, I can depend on my section leader to help me out. :)

My favorite part of choir is just how much of family we all are. During my seven years of choir I have met some of the best people I know. It's been great to watch people come and go and how we still remain a family. Lately choir in general has been a challenge for me. A lot of things have been happening in my life lately and I have been kind of depressed. Sometimes its hard to get up and dance and sing. It's especially hard to sing a song about a guy dying right now. But every day I have people around me in choir who pull me through and make me feel better.

My favorite part of choir is being able to sing with my friends around me. I have met so many wonderful people through choir. I think it is wonderful how the choir continues to get better every year even through the loss of many choir graduates. I am extremely grateful to go to a school with so many dedicated people. What challenges me in choir the most is sight reading. I am good at it, but I would like to get better at it. In choir, my section leaders and my friends around me build me up. Before concerts my section leaders always try to pump us up. :)

My favorite part of choir would definitely be both festival and pops. I enjoy festival because I love singing the formal music but I also like pops because we are able to take a break from sight reading and have fun with our songs (especially when the theme is Broadway). In choir, I find myself challenging myself. I am a student that become very frustrated when I don't understand a concept so I challenge myself to pay attention and learn new things so that I am always understanding what is going on. My friends always have my back in choir and they build me up often by cheering me up and making me smile on days that I am not feeling very happy.

My favorite part is actually how close everyone is and if someone is ever confused and lost they don't even usually have to ask because someone is already there because everyone has each others back. The most challenge part of choir for me is memorizing the choreography and songs because when I try to focus on the song when I dance my choreography isn't very good and vice versa. My friends always have my back and they're always there to help me out.

My favorite part about choir is performing as a choir. It feels great when we can successfully perform a song. Some of the dancing challenges me because I have a hard time doing it. Mrs. Jackson is always there to help me with anything. She has helped and supported me so much and without her I would not have been able to participate in solo and ensemble or get into honors choir.

My favorite part of choir is when we are given a challenging piece of music and learn the parts very well. I am an alto, and I love harmony. I love it when there is a beautiful, and challenging harmony to a song and the alto section learns it well. The most challenging part of choir, for me, is that I am usually on task, and a good listener but, I don't know how I should get others around me to listen and be distraction free. The most helpful people to me in choir, though they may not know it, are Riley Wood, and kendal Hoppa. Riley is a very good dancer so if I ever don't know a dance move, I can glance over to her and see her do it, and learn it myself. kendal Hoppa is an amazing singer and always knows her part so, if I am ever confused or unsure about a voice part I can listen to her.

My favorite part of choir is being able to sing and dance with my friends and all of the great people that I've met from choir. It is so nice to just be able to get away from the usual school stress and have fun with your friends. Something that challenges me is sight reading. Even though I think that I am pretty good at it, I would still like to be able to do it more confidently. The people that continue to build me up and have my back are all of the great people around me that work hard and are positive and enthusiastic, no matter what we are doing.

My favorite part of choir is just getting to be with everyone everyday, and I especially love when we have challenging choreography to work on. Something that poses a challenge to me is the festival pieces, and trying to balance practicing those and the pops pieces. Hailey Liverance always has my back and makes me feel better. She's always there to make me laugh or to let me vent and she's just the best friend I could ask for.

My favorite part of choir is getting to work together as a team to learn new songs. What challenges me most in choir is solfege I still struggle a little bit but it gets easier every time we go over it. Nick G. builds me up in choir because when we sit together we understand what's happening and we help each other learn quicker

My favorite part of choir is getting to know and work with new people. I also enjoy being with my friends and learning choreography. I am challenged in choir to go outside of my comfort zone in order to meet new people. The festival pieces also challenge me to become a better singer. My friends and section leaders always encourage me and build me up. I am very grateful to be a part of such an amazing group of people.

My favorite part about choir is being able to showcase my talents, alongside my friends. It is such a blessing to be able to dance and sing on stage infront of hundreds of people, with hundreds of my peers. What challenges me is the new complexity of sight reading- but with the friends around me, and a little bit of confidence, I am always able to get a hold of it, and push through. I always can look to Grace G for help and guidance when it comes to everything in life- not just choir. Ellie and Lindsey G often sing with me during sight reading exercises, and they always help me feel more supported. It's great that a class like choir is fun and exciting, but still challenging to the point where we learn new things every day.

I would say the thing I like most about choir is its timing in the day. I love how I can start every day with music. It is a great way to start the day, even if I have some sluggish days. The music wakes my brain up and I believe it helps jump-start my alertness early in the morning. I think the challenge with choir is the repetitiveness of the dances. I am very aware that practice makes perfect, but the re-running of the songs is tedious sometimes to me, personally. I know this is the best way to learn, however, and have no complaints. :) I know that anyone would have my back in choir, if I needed their help. I believe we all build each other up for the most part and that is a very nice to feel welcome around everyone.

My favorite part about choir is always feeling so welcomed and helpful. I feel so comfortable in the class and I am not afraid to ask questions or answer other students' questions. The thing that challenges me the most in choir is pushing myself to be better for the sake of the group. Sometimes it is hard giving 100 percent everyday but I do my best because I know the people around me deserve that. Emi always builds me up in and out of choir. She always tells me when I am doing a nice job and we are never afraid to go to one another with any questions or concerns and I believe choir has really helped this bond grow.

My favorite part about choir would have to be, being able to know that you can be yourself around your classmates. Everyone in choir is so accepting and makes you feel special. Song wise, I am very excited to be singing the song "vogue". The thing that I would have to say challenges me is, being able to remember my spot for all of the dances. I get multiple of the songs mixed up, and end up being in the wrong spot because of it, but I'm starting to remember. Kendal, always seems to build not only me up but a lot more people too. Her personality just lifts up everyone in the room in my opinion.

I would have to say that one of my favorite parts of choir is waking up and being able to sing with an amazing group of people each morning. I think one of my challenges in choir is to reach out and talk to new people not only in choir but also in the school that I haven't talked much with, as well as being myself. Christian Berends always has my back, he is basically my big brother. No matter what I am going through, he is always there to pick me back up. He always finds a way to put a smile on my face even on some of my worst days. Josie Edick as well always has my back. Her and I have been through a crazy amount of things together but somehow her and I have never lost grip of our friendship. She is a big reason as to why I am able to get out of bed some mornings just because I know that if I need a hug in the morning she will be there ready to give me one.

My favorite part of choir is seeing the the little bits of joy that I see in everyone's face during completely different times throughout the year, I also love the relationships I have built with some of the upper-classmen that I wouldn't were possible as an incoming freshman at the beginning of the year. Sight reading is kind of challenging for me in choir as it's a new level from last year, and also stepping out of my comfort zone and making my voice more prominent during some of the activities in class. Kendal Hoppa and Grace Goszkowicz have been extremely helpful and supportive this year also Ellie Hayhurst and Lindsey Golden when ever I have a question or need help they are always willing.

My favorite part of choir is spending every morning with people who want to work hard and be successful. I love when everyone understands a hard measure of music when we're sight reading or finally hits a complicated dance move at the same time. It feels good to be a part of a group who strives to be the best. Even watching other people use their arms to mimic the choreographers while we're sitting down gives our group a feeling of unity. My biggest challenge in choir is trying to leave my stress/school problems/emotional issues outside of the door and focus only on what we're doing. This year has been extremely crazy and stressful. Sometimes I find myself thinking about other classes or the work I need to get done outside of school, but I can usually bring myself back to what we're doing. Hayden and Lauren always have my back and build me up. We work together to figure out the challenging parts of a piece of music or a part of difficult choreography. We encourage each other both in and out of choir and push each other to be the best. If I'm having an off day, they ask what they can do to help and I do the same for them.

I would have to say that my favorite part about choir is that I get to be a part of the choir family and get to sing the songs we do. I would also have to say that pops is another favorite of being in choir because it's so energetic and everyone is always so positive when learning the choreography. I think the one challenge I have in choir is that I need to build myself up to be a better person and a better leader for the lower grades as in being a senior in choir. The one person that keeps me up and happy in choir would have to be Megan Melcher because she is always so positive in the morning and it puts me in a better mood when we get to talk. She keeps me positive and that's the one thing I love about her, she is overall a really good friend to me.

My favorite part of choir is being able to start my day with doing what I love. I get to pretty much wake up and sing. I also like that I get to be in a class with people who share the same love for music as I do. Solfege challenges me the most in choir. Singing can be a challenge from time to time because my voice is so scratchy in the morning. Alayna is always building me up and keeping me on track. She knows her parts and what she needs to be doing at all times.

My favorite part of choir is being able to blend and make beautiful music with my choir family. Everyday, there are new memories made in choir and new bonds are formed with each other. Sometimes, the hardest thing for me can be sight reading. It really helps me when I do the solfege on my hands to reflect how to project my voice to match that. Normally, I know most of my solfege but there is always room for improvement where I can be totally confident enough to sing it in front of the class or lead my section. One of the best parts of choir is always being able to start off the day with something you know will put a smile on your face. Choir is a great place just to let go of all my anxiety and just have fun with my choir family. It is such a good feeling knowing that you can be a part of something where everyone has each others backs and a place where everyone works hard to achieve a common goal.

I think my favorite part of choir is its fun and cheery atmosphere. It's always so fun to hang out and spend time with friends while singing. I think the most challenging part of choir for me this year is that I am gone so much for my college classes and I miss a lot of learning choreography or learning our songs and I fall behind a little bit because of it. I always have Ashley to teach me the dances that I missed though. She always has my back when I miss something in class, and I am thankful for that.

My favorite part of choir would be seeing all of my friends every morning. Most of my friends are in choir and it makes my day when I get to see them before any other class. It challenges me when we first start doing choreography for a song. I always get frustrated and want to give up, but when I memorize it, I have a lot of fun doing it with everyone. Sara Sabo and Justin Fisher always have my back if I have a question or need help with something. I always have them to go to and I never feel alone. Even if they weren't in choir, I still feel like I would have a lot of people to go to for help because almost everyone in our choir are very kind and helpful.

My favorite part of choir is the dancing. The singing is good too but learning new dances is one of my favorite things to do. It's also cool that I can get to know people by simply being put next to them for the dance. I am challenged in choir by the scales. Learning the words and symbols for the notes was difficult for me because I'm using to reading them as letters from A to G not Do to Ti. It's fun to be challenged and learn a new way of reading music though. Hayden always has my back in the class because she has been in choir for a much longer time than me and I can ask her any questions I have. She always has an answer and she sets a good example. Everyone in the class has been good about building me up. People will encourage me randomly which is really cool to receive and see other people receive compliments.

My favorite part of choir is learning new dance moves because I know that when I first start out I'm not really good at remembering them all and completing the motions but after our concert when we watch our pops video I like to see how much I improved. The things that challenge me in choir are always trying to make sure I know the dance moves for all of the songs. Arin Hogan and Madison Clarke and Kerah P. and Sam Sroka always have my back and will help me if I am gone for the things that I have missed or if I am running late they will save me a seat if we are sitting in seats in choir. My favorite part of Choir is connecting with all students in every grade. Since I am a senior, most of my classes are with people in my grade. Choir allows me to reach out to different students that I don't see regularly. The most challenging part of choir is being engaged every day in class. There is so much stuff going on and so many expectations that choir sometimes takes a back seat in my brain, which isn't a good thing. One person that has my back is Hunter Schotts. When doing my google voice a while back I was super nervous and scared and Nicole just kept encouraging me telling me I will do great and just kept building up my confidence. I was still nervous doing my google voice but Nicole made me feel better by what she was telling me.

my favorite part of choir is being around such positive people all of the time. a challenge I have in choir is some days giving my all because of having other things on my mind or other school work or sickness. someone that helps with everything in choir and always has my back is Sophia Muller. no matter what she always pushes me to be my best.

My favorite part of choir is being with all my friends in a good happy environment. The thing that challenges me most in choir is sight reading. Ansley Oliphant is always there for me to help me out.

My favorite part of choir is working on pops and I really enjoy practicing at the fraunthal as we get closer to our performance. It is especially challenging for me to sight read music, but I have noticed myself getting better and better at it each time we practice. Furthermore, my sister Bella always has my back in choir and I'm really glad that we get to be in high school together this year. We have fun singing the choir songs together both in school and at home.

My favorite part of choir is learning new songs I have never heard before and connecting with multiple new people from other grades. A challenge for me is sight reading and trying to talk to new people in our choir family. People who always help me are my friends around me such as both Chloe's, Laney, Ansley, and Jezica. They always have a good time and it brightens up my mood.

My favorite part of choir is the dancing and choreography because I get to do other things than just sit and sing. A challenge for me is being able to stand next to someone who doesn't sing my part in a song I'm not as confident in. The people who really build me up are my friends because I can dance and sing without being judged and they help me be comfortable.

I would say that my favorite part of choir is being able to come in and the morning and sing. It is a great way to start my day and warm my brain up instead of sitting in another class. The challenging part is having to bring energy on the mornings where I don't feel like doing anything. I would say that Jacob Achterhoff brings me up because we have fun together in class and he makes it easier to cope with everyday struggles.

My favorite part of choir is when we do our festival pieces, as I'm not much one for dancing. The most difficult part of choir for me is honestly just how tired I am in the morning. I can count on my friends to have my back.
