Singer-songwriters like Bono have impacted the world through their music. Think about our two festival songs: Wangol and City Called Heaven. Which of those of those two songs is more meaningful to you and why?

I would say Wangol is more meaningful to me, especially after we watched some videos of other choirs singing the song. Listening to them gave me a new perspective; even if a song is sung differently than the original version, the meaning is still the same because of the lyrics.

Out of our two festival songs, I think that City Called Heaven is more meaningful to me because I relate it to the emotions I felt when I first moved to North Muskegon. A song that I would describe as an anthem for my life is Satellite by Guster because I've come to find that not all things are as they seem, and I just like to sing that song.

Wangol is more meaningful to me because I like what it represents and city called Heaven is more depressing to me. My Anthem would be "Fight another day" by Addison Road. This is the song I think of when im going through hard times and when I don't want to give up on something.

I would say that the song "City Called Heaven" is more meaningful to me because it always brings me back to when African Americans had to struggle to have their freedom. Looking back from that, I'm always grateful because we've come a log way and we're living in a world where we can finally call it home. Even though they're are hateful people in this world and other negtive things going on, I look back on how we fought so hard to convince people to be civil, so AMerica can be called home. With that being said, I'm always at peace when I sing this song, and it gives me a great amount of faith.

It took me until I was 30 years old to really realize that beauty comes from within. I was always worried so much about what people think that I could never see my own inner beauty. I still care a lot about what others think, but try not to let it be the driving force in my life. I am nowhere near perfect, but I no longer spend all my time wanting to be perfect.

I like wangol a lot because I think it tells a good story, and sounds cool with the way our choir sings it. I think that the song that describes or relates to my life is "Home" by phillip phillips because it describes about someone's home, and north muskegon has always been my home, and always will be my home, and just has that feeling of community.

Wangol is more meaningful to me. I think it has a huge impact for those who truly know the song. Seeing the videos and the poverty in Haiti gives me a sense for what this song means. Singing it with this choir is amazing. If I had to choose an anthem for my life it would be "Hall of Fame" by the Script. It has a great message about being the best you can be. We are all different, but want the same basic things in life. One of these things is just being the best we can be. The lyrics in the song say, "Dedicate yourself and you gon' find yourself standing in the hall of fame." Everyone wants to be successful and the song is saying if you dedicate yourself you will succeed.

Wangol and City Called Heaven are both very meaningful songs, but for me City Called Heaven is more meaningful because it makes me feel that no matter where I am or if I'm in a bad situation that there is still hope for me to have a better life. The anthem of my life would have to be Am I Wrong by Nico and Vinz because I always try to be my own person and I don't let other people influence my choices.

Out of our two festival songs, "A City Called Heaven" is more meaningful to me. In the past year, I have grown in my faith more than I ever thought I ever would. This is due to some ties cut with people and new relationships formed, I have never felt closer to God. " A City Called Heaven" really resinates with me and reminds me of who I was and who I will become. As for a song that I believe would be my anthem, where I am in my life right now I would have to say "Time of Your Life" by Green Day. I have been trying to really make the most of my time here on earth by doing things that truly bring me happiness. (Reading, French, beginning to learn German, writing, etc.) In the past, I had spent too much time doing things for other people and not myself. This life is mine, and I'm going to live it for me.

I would have to say Wangol is more meaningful to me, because it stands out and it's an upbeat song and it's just a happy song. Out of the two songs, Wangol is my favorite because it's so uplifting and can be sung in so many ways with so many different kinds of styles. The meaning behind the song is also great and gives a positive look on life. If I had to choose a song for me it would be "Say" by OneRepublic. This is probably my favorite song and whenever I'm going through a hard time I listen to it because it cheers me up, and this song is basically what I live by. Basically the song is about getting lost with everything, not knowing where you're going, getting lost in loneliness with nothing turning out how you originally planned. But then realizing that sometimes all you need is air, and a place to relax, to let everything go. Life will always throw things at you, good or bad, and sometimes life gets depressing, but it's our choice to find something that makes us happy and find our true purpose in life. Sometimes it feels like forever trying to figure out why and what you were put on the earth for, but you have to stay positive and keep moving on, working hard at finding your purpose.

Between Wangol and City Called Heaven, I think City really connects with me. I like that it sounds so different from most things you hear.. Also, it's a little bit on the dark side. I always appreciate a piece of writing, whether it is a poem, song, or story, that has a darker side to it. Picking a song to be my anthem is really hard. I think sometimes I feel like I could connect with one song or one genre and other times I feel like I could connect with the polar opposite. I listen to so many different types of music that it is too hard for me to pick just one song.

If I had to pick a song between Wongol or City Called Heaven that meant the most to me, I would chose Wongol because watching the videos in class made me think how lucky we really are to live in a world like we do. I have also been to other places around the world that are third world countries that aren't as lucky as we are, and that don't have the money and things that we have here. Every time we sing Wongol It reminds me to be grateful for what we have. if I had to pick an Anthem for my life it would be a country song, but i'm not sure which one because there are so many good country songs. What I like about Country songs are all the lyrics to the songs have meaning behind them that tell a story!

The kind of music that I listen to keeps my mind off things that are bothering me. I mostly listen to some of the music now but most of the time its a lot of hard rock music. If i could chose an anthem for my life it would have to be have to be Welcome to my Life by Simple Plan because it symbolizes what I've gone through in my life and what I have become now, it makes me think of what I was then and how I overcome that. What I've made myself today.

"Wangol" impacts me spiritually in a way that I don't completely understand. When I read the English translation, it seems simple and easy, but when we sing this song as a choir, the African language speaks to me. I believe that our choir is what changes a song to an experience each time.

Sometimes we are surrounded by sorrow, there is no light at the end of the tunnel, darkness leads the way. We become alone and scared, needing a light to be the hope that rescues us from the depths. A City Called Heaven represents the hope that can find in hopelessness. This is why I connect to A City Called Heaven.

To me, Wangol is more meaningful because it's like I'm singing it to someone, like a friend, who is going to leave for a long time and I will not be able to see them. This helps me put more emotion into singing this song. It's not always the same friend I am singing about, I make so that it's like I sing to a different friend most of the time. One time when I was singing Wangol, my online friend Jen was going to be offline for 3 days because she got in trouble and I focused the song on her and I almost cried because it felt so real and I missed her so much! She is back though. :)

I think that City Called Heaven is more meaningful to me because it makes me think about all those african americans that were fighting for equality and dreaming of a better place, and nowadays, some of them are still struggling with life, sometimes I wish everyone could enjoy life and see it in a positive way, I don't really have an anthem as a song, but I remember "unwritten" by Natasha Bedingfield it tells especially to me, that people have to live their own life, and don't let anyone to live it for you, and that you write your own story, and you write it everyday and the rest of your life is waiting for you to write it in a good way.

Wangol is more meaningful to me because when everyone in choir gives a lot of effort, it sounds amazing and we sound powerful. I get lost in the song in a good way when we do really well. The anthem for my life would have to be "I Lived" by OneRepublic because it's about living your life to the fullest and knowing before you die that you can look back and say that you have little to no regrets. I hope as life goes on that this can be me and that I will live life and not wish that I had done something when it is too late.

City Called Heaven is more meaningful to me simply because of how different it is from every other song we've done. The song is very sad. It's about a traveler alone in the new world. He feels so alone that he wants to kill himself, or, make heaven his home. This song is much more serious and meaningful than the other songs we're doing, and, although not my favorite piece, really speaks to me.

Out of the two festival songs, the one that possesses the most meaning for me in my life would be City Called Heaven. The song expresses a longing for a better time. A longing for an end of hardship and the thoughts of a bright future especially after death which is signified by heaven. I have struggled so much over the past few years. I constantly long for an end to all of the pain that I go through on a daily basis. This song speaks so much to me and makes me reflect on the emotional hardships that I have gone through in my life, from my depression to my suicidal thoughts and actions, plus the constant feeling that I am worthless. These feelings all stem from the events of my past and are all things that I am trying to overcome in my life. This song honestly brings tears to my eyes when I sing it with the others in choir. It is emotionally moving and a good reminder to those who are religious and those who are not that what you are going through is not the end and there is a light at the end of the tunnel, either if that would be heaven like what is depicted in the song, or something else.

Of our two festival songs, Wangol is more meaningful to me. I enjoyed watching the videos in class and they opened my eyes to the poverty and difficult situations around the world. Watching the videos gave a new meaning to the song, and I feel like we can put our lives into perspective as we sing. If I had to choose an anthem for my life, it would either be "The Heart of Life" by John Mayer or "The Wild Hunt" by The Tallest Man on Earth. I enjoy both artists' voices, descriptive lyrics, and styles. Although the two songs seem to have opposite meanings, they are both able to capture the way that I view my life. "The Heart of Life" by John Mayer is a simple yet reassuring song. It reminds me that life is good, and I need to have a positive attitude in order to make the best of it. "The Wild Hunt" by the Tallest Man on Earth can be interpreted in many different ways, and I see it as the countless possibilities in life that are waiting to be explored. It reminds me that there is more to life than the small town that we live in. It is an invitation to experience everything- art forms, ideas, languages, music- that our lives have to offer.

Wangol and City called Heaven are both meaningful to me but in different ways. Wangol is meaningful to me because the videos showed me different ways to be into the music. Wangol is meaningful because it is a cry for help and shows that someone is always there for you. City called Heaven is meaningful to me because it shows that there is always a safe place. The song that I would chose is Try by Colbie Caillat. This song isn't really up beat but it really shows that you don't need to change yourself. You should just accept how you are and never change yourself for anyone.

The song that is most meaningful to me is definitely Wangol. It reminds me that no matter how hard life might be sometimes, there is always hope and something better to look forward too. Whenever we sing it in class I love how excited we all get and how much energy many of us have. Just singing it always puts me in a better place! If I had to choose one song for the anthem of my life it would be beautiful by the band MercyMe. It reminds me that the things we go through in life are only temporary and we have something so much better waiting for us and we get to look forward to it!

For me, both of the songs are very meaningful and very eye-opening. They both remind me that I am very fortunate the live the life that I do. Many people don't have the same rights that I do, like a free education. Even though sometimes it is a pain in the butt, I know that I am setting myself up for a good future and I wish everyone had that. Many people want to make heaven their home because they have a very hard life and for one reason or the other they can't find the goodness in life. These songs remind me that some people have to look really hard to find the goodness in life and I am thankful that I don't have to look very hard to find it.

Of the festival songs my favorite is Wongol. I love Wongol because it is very spiritual, it sounds very hopeful and reminds me to always make the most of my situation. I love so many different songs but if I had to choose one to be the anthem for my life I would choose "Good to be Alive" by Jason Gray. This song makes me so happy and reminds me to make the best of everything and remember how God has blessed me and to be thankful.

I like both City Called Heaven and Wangol equally. I find them interesting and meaningful in their own ways. Songs that describe my life would include "Stand Tall" by the Dirty Heads, "Blood" by the Middle East (it sounds scary but I swear it's poetry), and "Only The Good Die Young" by Bruce Springsteen. They're all super different, but they make me so happy and I feel like the three of them describe me. :)

Wangol is definitely more important to me because of all of the memories I have from last year when we performed the song. City is also great, but sometimes it seems like I can't relate to the song as well as Wangol. I don't really have a song anthem, but if I had to choose one that makes me feel alive, it has to be Rocket Man by Elton John. It's a classic.

City Called Heaven is more meaningful to me because I feel like it tugs at my heart a little more than Wangol does. It makes me think of all of the discrimination and segregation that we had in the past, and even those incidents that we still have today. If I were to pick an anthem for my life, it would be "I Lived" by One Republic because it's about taking life one day at a time and doing everything you can to make your life meaningful. I want to live a meaningful life.

Out of our two festival songs, City Called Heaven would be my favorite. It reminds me of the hardships that poor pilgrims had to go through and they all wanted to get to heaven so they can be safe and happy. They know heaven will eventually be their home. It sounds so unique and different from any songs I've heard.

the most meaning for me in my life would be City Called Heaven. The song expresses the thoughts that he is alone in this world and that no one is there for him to help him make heaven his home. that you must go through and even if it is hard it will help shape you to the person that u are right now . This song speaks so much to me and makes me reflect on the past and reminds me that because of my past I am a strong and independent child of God and nothing will change that. . The events in my past helped me to get to the person who I am today. This song honestly brings me to tears everytime I sing it with the others in choir. It is emotionally moving and a good reminder to those who are religious and those who are not that what you are going through is not the end and there is a light at the end of the tunnel, either if that would be heaven like what is depicted in the song, or something else.

Of our two festival pieces, I would say that Wangol is more meaningful to me. To me, Wangol is kind of a release. When I am singing that song with the choir and I can hear everyone around me, it is truly incredible. All of my worries in the world and all my anger and troubles go into the music and disappear. Wangol gives me a new start and a new beginning. An optimistic beginning.

City Called Heaven speaks of someone is not in a good spot in their life but they are trying o get to a better place. If I had to choose an anthem for my life it would have to be pretty much any song by MercyMe, if I had to choose one it would have to be Word of God Speak, Bring the Rain, and I Can Only Imagine. These songs remind me that their is always something to look forward to no matter what is going on around me.

Wangol is a more meaningful song to me, and while some believe it is about pushing through tough times, I see it as something else. Quotes like "Where are you going" and "when will i see you again" translated into English from the Haitian language make me reflect on my own life at this stage. I see the song as a story about a boy becoming a man. Wangol has probably undergone a rite of passage, becoming a man in the eyes of the tribe. And the responsibility that comes with that might require him to leave the tribe or be away from it for a large amount of time. I see this in my own life as a transition to a college student.

Everyone perceives music and lyrics differently, and some see deeper meaning in the words than others. City Called Heaven is more meaningful to me because of its lyrics and my relation to them. I see the song as someone that's stuck in their own sorrow and loneliness and is desperately looking for a way out.

The words express a lot of hope for change for a better future. I feel the words are easier to sing, and to express. A song for my life anthem i cant think of just one because many songs are for different ways i feel and i like many kinds of music.

While "City Called Heaven" is simple yet elegant but out of the two songs I enjoy "Wangol" more for its lively spirit and hope-filled lyrics. I believe both of our songs are very meaningful. The song that I like singing the most though would be Wongol. In Wongol, the spirit and the energy of the song really help display the true meaning. I love this song because it is a song of hope. Whenever I sing it all my worries wash away and I feel uplifted, almost like I can accomplish anything. If I had to pick one song to be my life anthem it would probably be Overcomer by Mandisa. A teacher of mine at Whitehall has cancer and she showed me this song. She listens to it every morning and it helps her get through all of the chemo. When I listen to this song it makes me feel like I can do anything I set my mind to. It is so uplifting and just an overall great song.

My favorite festival song was A City Called heaven because I feel it had such a large impact on our choir, as we were singing you could just feel the soul and power behind us. It was such a great feeling. A song that explains my life would be shake it off by Taylor Swift... I say this because I don't like to be a person that spreads negativity, I like to spread positivity and some people like to say rude things for no reason at all... And that is why you have to ignore he haters and just become a motivator.
